Gender Equity Policy

Editorial participation

The journal promotes equal opportunities and seeks balanced representation on its editorial bodies and among reviewers. Selection is based on expertise, experience and the absence of conflicts of interest; the composition of these groups will be reviewed periodically to identify imbalances and improve participation.

Respectful treatment and language

The journal does not tolerate discrimination based on sex, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation or other personal characteristics. Precise, respectful and inclusive language is encouraged in manuscripts, communications and reviews, while retaining necessary scientific terminology.

Sex and gender in research

When relevant to the research question, authors should describe how sex and gender were considered in study design, recruitment, analysis and interpretation. They should distinguish sex from gender-related variables, explain how these were measured and justify the absence of disaggregated analyses when relevant. Sex- or gender-based analysis is not required when it does not apply to the study; identities should not be inferred from data that were not collected. The journal recommends the SAGER guidelines for reporting these aspects.

Authors and participants

Authors’ names and forms of identification are handled respectfully and in accordance with the journal’s authorship rules and review process. Participant information should be presented in aggregate form and with appropriate privacy protections, in line with the Human Research and Informed Consent Policy.
